Curious About What Else Goes On Around Here?
Enjoy a look behind the scenes, meet some animal friends past and present, and share in the fun as we cultivate a life here on our mountainside flower farm.
In the Barnyard
We don’t have a barn, but we have been home to a variety of barnyard animals over the years! Since the CZU fire, I’ve had to re-evaluate how barnyard animals fit into our emergency preparedeness, but I can’t imagine farming without the help of some of these animal friends who provide so much service, nourishment, entertainment and affection.

As my first goat, Brownie will always have my heart. We lost him to an accident during the CZU fire evacuation in the Fall of 2020.

Big Red was among the first chicks we started with at our current location, back in 2009, and she still rules the roost around here!

This bonded pair of Welsh Harlequin ducks has been together here since 2015.

BunBun was one of three exquisite Rex rabbits who came to us from Blossom's Biodynamic Farm back when they were just down the road. Rabbits do a remarkable job of transforming plant wastes to compost, and are much cuter than a compost pile.

Swimmy's legs weren't useful for walking, but she could swim so fast it was hard to get a picture of her fully in frame! She lived out her natural lifetime here, learning to propel herself across land when necessary, and swimming whenever possible.
Kazoo trying to pick apples right off the tree.
The goats have been integral in keeping fire fuels down and clearing brush from, and simultaneously fertilizing, new planting areas.

Not Just Flowers
In addition to flowers, we grow food for our household and to share with family & friends; gourds for decorative and practical uses; cover crops to nourish the soil; and a variety of habitat plants who provide a wide range of gifts to this land, from erosion control to forage, medicine to housing, and much more.
